IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light — a light-based technology that’s distinct from laser. Rather than a single laser wavelength, IPL delivers a broad spectrum of light in controlled pulses. That light is absorbed by pigment in sun spots and age spots, and by hemoglobin in visible blood vessels, without significantly affecting the surrounding skin.
Once that pigment or vessel absorbs the light energy, the body naturally breaks it down and clears it over the days and weeks that follow. Treated spots typically darken slightly and flake away on their own, while treated redness fades gradually as vessels clear.
IPL is commonly used for sun damage, age spots, redness, rosacea, broken capillaries, and overall uneven skin tone. Because results build with each session, we’ll put together a personalized treatment plan at your consultation based on what we see and what you’re looking to improve.
Our IPL photo facials are delivered using Nordlys, an advanced combination platform that pairs IPL with Nd:YAG laser technology in a single device. If deeper texture concerns come up during your consultation, we may also talk through skin resurfacing, which uses Nordlys’s laser mode instead.

Broad-spectrum light, not a single laser wavelength
Minimal downtime — back to routine same day
Personalized treatment plan, built as a series
IPL targets pigment and blood vessels close to the skin’s surface — here’s where it tends to help most.

IPL targets the excess pigment built up from years of sun exposure, helping tone even out over a series of sessions.

Light absorbed by hemoglobin in visible blood vessels can help calm persistent facial redness and rosacea-related flushing over time.

Age spots and other areas of concentrated pigment darken slightly after treatment, then flake away naturally as skin renews itself underneath.

Small, visible vessels — often around the nose, cheeks, and legs — respond well to IPL’s targeted light energy, fading gradually with treatment.

A cooling gel is applied and the IPL device delivers a series of light pulses to the treatment area. Most patients describe it as a mild snapping sensation. Sessions are typically quick, with no anesthesia needed.
Session length: Varies by areaSome redness right after treatment is normal and usually settles within a few hours. Treated spots often darken and take on a slightly rougher texture before flaking off naturally over the following days — let them shed on their own rather than picking at them.
Recovery: Minimal, days not weeksPigment clearing and redness reduction build gradually as your body processes each treated area. Because IPL works in a series, tone and clarity keep improving with each session — we’ll map out a plan for your skin at your consultation.
Results: Build with each sessionNo — they’re different technologies with different goals. Laser hair removal uses a single focused laser wavelength to target hair follicles. IPL uses a broader spectrum of light and is used for skin rejuvenation — treating sun damage, redness, and uneven pigment, not hair.
It depends on your skin and what you’re treating. IPL works progressively, so a series of sessions is typically recommended for noticeable, lasting improvement. We’ll outline a personalized plan at your consultation.
Minimal. Some redness right after treatment is normal and usually settles within a few hours. Treated spots may darken and flake off naturally over the following days — most patients return to their normal routine right away.
IPL relies on contrast between pigment and surrounding skin, so it’s not suitable for tanned or very dark skin tones. We’ll evaluate your skin at a consultation to confirm whether IPL is the right fit or whether another treatment makes more sense.
Yes — recent tanning or sun exposure can affect how your skin responds to IPL, and treated skin is temporarily more sensitive to sun afterward. We’ll go over specific timing and sun protection guidance for your treatment plan.
Yes — IPL is often layered into a broader skincare plan alongside treatments like chemical peels or microneedling. We’ll help you sequence treatments appropriately based on your goals.
