UNDERSTANDING VISIBLE VEINS

What Causes Visible Facial & Leg Veins?

Visible facial veins — often called broken capillaries or spider veins — and similar veins on the legs show up when small blood vessels near the skin’s surface become dilated or damaged. Sun exposure, aging, genetics, and prolonged standing (for legs especially) are all common contributors. Light-based treatments can help fade the appearance of these vessels, and the right approach depends on where the veins are and how large they are — something we’ll look at together at a consultation.

WHERE TO START

Treatments For Facial & Leg Veins

These treatments can help fade the appearance of visible vessels — here’s where to look first.

Targeted Light

IPL Photo Facials

Focused light energy targets small, visible vessels on the face — often around the nose and cheeks — helping them fade gradually with treatment.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Facial & Leg Veins Treatment FAQs

It depends on where the veins are and how large they are. Smaller facial vessels often respond well to IPL, while larger or deeper vessels — including many leg veins — may call for Nordlys’ combination approach. We’ll take a look and talk through what makes sense at your consultation.

It varies by vessel size, location, and how your skin responds, and most plans involve more than one visit. We’ll set expectations for your specific plan at your consultation rather than quote a number up front.

Light-based treatments work by targeting contrast between the vessel and the surrounding skin, so suitability depends on your skin tone and the specific vessels involved. We’ll evaluate that at your consultation and recommend the right approach, or let you know if it’s not a good fit.

Treated vessels typically fade, but new ones can develop over time from the same underlying causes, like sun exposure or prolonged standing. Note that larger varicose veins or veins tied to an underlying circulatory issue are outside the scope of cosmetic treatment and should be evaluated by a physician — we’re happy to help you figure out which situation you’re dealing with.
